We have a 48 volt DS cart with a 350 amp curtis controller set at speed 4 and an advanced motor 3294/GGO-4001 and 14" tires. We're burned terminal off of 2 motors. We use #4 wire and have all of the terminals clean yet the controller and motor are still getting hot . Do you know what is causing this

Re: bernie
Reads like you have a short. I would imagine it doesn't do it while connecting everything. So while you are driving one or two of the feeds to the motor are touching the frame.
OR The connections are loose and allowing arcing at the stud. Post some pics of the battery compartment and controller area and see if one us can see something. |

Re: bernie
The wire aren't touching anything. I have to drive it for 10 minutes for it to get hot and I've sanded all of the ring terminals and everything is tight Could it be I need a different motor

Re: bernie
Bernie what is the serial number for your cart? Also recheck your part number for your motor. A google search for your motor 3294/GGO-4001 doesn't show up anything.

Re: bernie
Are ALL of your cables 4 gauge? If you don't change all of them to 4 gauge it doesn't do you any good to upgrade.

Re: bernie
3294/GGO-4001 is the number on the advanced motor. As far as all of the wires being # 4 I'll have to check that

Re: bernie
I know your tires are not 14" because stock golf cart tires are 18". Likely you are confusing rim size with tire size. What's important to know is are the tires significantly shorter or taller than stock, does the cart have a lift kit? This will increase amp draw. Is the motor the advanced High Torque model?

Re: bernie
I think what Scotty is getting at is... Read the numbers on your tires
Mine say 25x10.5x12 25 = tire height 10.5 = tire width 12 = rim size The tire height is a crucial part of electric carts and they're performance! |
