Default Cable upgrade

Hey guys – I have a quick question. I am currently in the process of upgrading my stock cables to 2 gauge. I have wired everything with the exception of the negative coming off of the battery to the controller. The hole that this cable goes through is too small to put the new wire through and there are two other wires attached to the cable going into the controller.

Can I get away with leaving the stock negative cable on?

Thanks

No:

The other wires get ther own eyelet. You use a stud to go through the hole in the obc., but until you get the stud you can use the old cable on it. It will be the bottle neck for your power and the rest of the cables will not help because the small one is blocking the current flow.

Thank you for the reply – could I just widening the hole in order to get the new cable through? If not, is the stud just a brass bolts?

Thanks

The other option I was just told is to leave the original ground running to the controller and connect the new 2 gauge wire from the negative on the battery to the controller as well. Any thoughts?

For the OBC to function correctly, it needs to measure all of the power used.
Having a cable bypass the OBC will not work. It will not recharge your batteries correctly. Get the brass bolt.

DO NOT DRILL THE HOLE OUT. I did this and now the OBC is garbage. There is a fine wire coil that measure the voltage.

It's actually measuring current.

Yep - Don't do it. So far the best method I know of is the brass stud

I was able to put Vaseline on my 2 ga cable and it went through the OBC " "very carefully" but it did wok , I then crimped the lug on properly and used adhesive lined heat shrink , so I was able to get rid of that one connection. You may have to even cut down some of the insulation or rubber covering right at the end of the cable to get it stared through the OBC but keep applying Vaseline and push from one side and pull from the other side but do it carefully so that you are not too hard on the OBC . it worked great for me and i have one less connection to get loose or corroded.

Thanks Fishbooz - that is what I did this afternoon and it worked great. I ended up using a propane torch to resoldered the connection after putting it through the hole.
