Interstate battery- Ever seen this??
I have a guy that bought a reconditioned precedent, that came with new interstate heavy duty golf cart batteries. They lasted 2 years then failed.
The cart shop replaced the batteries, with new same identicle interstate batteries. This second set of interstates have failed after 14 months. So he wants me to figure out why they are failing. I see on each of the batteries there is a small sticker, that ressembles a ground symbol. Look at the picture and you can see it if you blow it up. Has anyone seen these stickers before? I would like to know what they mean?? The only thing i can think of , possibly, is maybe this means they were warranty replaced. Any ideas? |

I think those are to identify RFID tagged batteries, Interestate has an automated inventory tracking system.

Those are the two batteries that power all the 12v auxiliaries. From the looks of all the added wires I would say that he is overloading them. He should go with a 48/12v converter.

Re: Interstate battery- Ever seen this??
Those are deep cycle not golf cart batteries. Deep cycle are not meant for the high amp loads that golf cart batteries are. They are built for trolling motors, marine applications and definitely do not get the amount of cycles that golf cart batteries do.I have seen this before with interstate batteries selling those as golf cart batteries...they dont last. I am a golf course mechanic with a side business selling Trojan and Powertron batteries and have changed these out before in less then 2 years of purchase and the customers are always baffled by it.

I was told by a mechanic not to use the quick release cell covers because they supposedly do not vent the battery's. any thoughts on that also.

If he is running them down below 50% regularly, he isn't going to get more than 2 years out of them. I think it is a very bad idea to imbalance a pack by running the lights off of only some of the batteries. Use a reducer or an aux battery. It will save $$ in the long run.
