Kiwasaki Rear-end shaft play in 96CC

Have motor off my 96 CC to replace the motor end spline bushing (due to clicking sound) & seem to have rotationplay in rear end shaft of Kiwasaki rear end. Is this normal? Now is time to replace if needed. If so does anyone have a diagram blowup?

Some backlash in the gears is normal.. Now if the input shaft can be moved up & down or in & out excessively, you may have some bearing issues..

John-Thanks for the help Shaft is tight in all directions with no oil residue around the bearing wall. I think I will put the motor back on (yek!! with the body on) and see if I got rid of the clicking noise after putting in the spline bumper. Good luck on your 96 project. Dick

Your Welcome!!

If ya need a bit more room to install the motor... Jack up the rear of the cart, set on stands, and remove rear wheels.. Unbolt the shocks from the axle, remove the rear shackle bolts fron the springs.. Lower the axle to the ground, pivoting the springs on the front hanger bolts.. This will give you plenty of room to install the motor.. Once the motor is installed, lift the axle back up and reattach the shackles and shocks.. Reinstall the wheels, set the cart back on the ground, and reconnect the motor wiring thru the access panel up top..

My ol' '96 is almost ready to run, just have to get a controller.. Then she'll be ready for her first flight!!

I like your plan!! It beats trying to do a one arm hoist over the axel. I'll give it a shot in the AM. My 96 is a rebuild with custom paint and a lot of goodies, street legal for our gated community, primarily for golf and is slow (stock GE with Kawa stock gears) but looks classy. It is my winter project. Paid 600 with another 500 plus labor added, thinking of selling it next year and do a newer model next winter. Thanks again. Dick
