Default Do I need a new motor? Whining noise

The noise started at the end of the season but let it go until now (time to start getting ready for the new camping season). Sounds like its coming from the motor (whining noise) or possibly rear end

I have o 02' CC DS 48V with Alltrax controller (DCX 400), stock motor. At first I thought it was one of the brakes rubbing so I loosened them off to make sure it wasn't. When I step on the pedal the noise goes away for a few seconds then returns (at normal running speed or full throttle). I also lost a lot of top end speed and power. Almost feels like motor braking is on all the time.

Could I need a new motor or could it be the rear end causing this (I'm assuming motor since the noise does go away for a few moments when first stepping on the pedal and if was the rear end the noise would be constant).

Thanks in advance!

first i'd check the oil in your rear if it is good then pull motor and clean it
you can replace the brushes in the motor if really worn out

I would first try disabling plug braking in the Alltrax Controller, and run the brake current back to 50%. It could be the PWM braking your hearing.

I drained the gear oil (have to go buy some in the morning) and will fill it back up. I also took apart the motor and cleaned it with compressed air (got tons of black dust out) as well as removed surface rust. Brushes look fine to me but not sure exactly what worn brushes look like (I'll post pics shortly). I have everything back together minus the gear oil so I won't be able to test run until later tomorrow.

Once I do a test run I'll then look into the controller settings. I don't want to do both with out testing first so I'll know what the problem was.

What are all the best settings for the DCX400 controller running a stock motor?

Thanks
