Chargers keep blowing
Another issue came up this weekend. I thought i had a bad charger last week, it started to smoke and then went out. I bought another one and it ended up doing the same thing. The battery pack was full charge about 50vlts I plugged the new charger in and it did nothing. I hit the reset button on it and that's when it started smoking and burnt up. I have the female end on the kart negative wire going to the main neg on the battery pack. The positive goes to a fuse and from the fuse to the main positive post on the battery pack. If I put a volt meter where these connections are, I get the total pack voltage of 48 - 50vlts.* Am I doing something wrong here that keeps blowing the chargers?*I have the older style 2 prong connection. Thanks.

Re: Chargers keep blowing
What would happen if you hooked a 36 volt charger to 48 volt battery pack.
That's what it sounds like unless the cart has been modified. |

Re: Chargers keep blowing
Yes it has been modified to 48vlts. The first charger was one it came with a Stanley universal charger, it would do 24 36 48 vlts. It would hunt for the voltage and then begin to charge. The second was a straight 48vlt charger not sure of the name now, but is was a golf cart charger. I am taking it in today to be checked out.

Re: Chargers keep blowing
If I went to the newer three prong style connection, where does the grey wire go to if I have no OBC??

Re: Chargers keep blowing
Main battery negative I believe. If I'm wrong I know somebody will jump in.

Re: Chargers keep blowing
Typically You just leave it disconnected as any automatic charger I ever seen does not use the 'sense' wire for activation, that is more of an OBC specific functionality.
What plug exactly are You using? Make sure the + and - on the receptacle match the + and - orientation of the plug. |

Re: Chargers keep blowing
So I took it in for repair this evening. The guy said it looked wired right so maybe it was just another bad charger. He is going to double check everything just to be sure. The second type that went out was a PowerDrive.
