Switching from a Powerdrive II to a Lestronics charger.

Curious about something.

I have a like new Lestronic II 48 volt 21 amp charger. Does this charger have a microprocessor or whatever to limit the charging so I can use it to properly charge my Precedent batteries and bypass the OBC?

At present, I am not sure if they are boiling or gassing but after a charge, all batteries have leaked some water around the caps. This is a Precedent with the CC PD2, 13amp charger. Any ideas?

I want to know this because I am buying all new batteries and want to make sure I treat them with the respect they deserve. The 4 - 12's that are coming out are going to the fishing boat for aerator pumps and a standby aux start battery. Good use for them huh?

I have been using 2 of the Lestronic II chargers. They do read voltage and in three stages apply the correct amperage.... I have not tried them on a cart with the OBC.

Scotty, Can't I just bypass the OBC and charge from the Lester? That is what I meant to say in my post.

I'm guessing you know better... but I'm going to say this anyway...

The PD2 charger is 13 amps, and the batteries are gassing and boiling...
wouldn't the Lestronic 21 amp charger make them gas and boil more?
(being a higher charge output?)

My batteries boil also... and as far as I'm conserned, that's normal!
I just make sure that the water level in all of the cells are just above the plates,
and, that minimizes the the overflow! (but, there is always some!)

IMO... use the stock PD2 charger, with the OBC in circuit,
keep your new batteries clean, and filled to their proper level,
and they'll have a long, and useful life!

again... My opinion!

I won't argue with Don's logic at all I have been using the Lestronics without overflow problems....they do gas. But so do I
What I meant was that I am not certain if you should disconnect the obc or what in order to do what you asked.....

I agree with the logic. I was thinking maybe the 13A charger may be running too long or screwing up somewhere along the line. I am an EZGO convert so and I never saw this problem before. I have a new set of batteries to instal and I want to treat them well!

Yea but you may be benefiting from this traitor. You wanted a 48volt charger right? Hey, what the heck are you doing in the CC forum? Trying to get some anti-rusting tips or trying to figure out why a CC will run rings around an EZGO?

I will not debate you until I know the disposition of said charger. Me no stupidah.

As for trolling the CC Electric area, it never hurts to learn something. Besides, there may be a CC sparky project in my future. There is this older cart at the campground that just might go up for sale real cheap......

LOL...........I know I know! The more I think about it, I do need a couple tires and a wheel. Let me look snoop around and find just what I need and we may just get you a deal on this charger.
