Question signal light flasher relay for tecscan LED lights

I purchased a set of tecscan led lights and wanted to build my own style of switch, I picked up a 2 pole flasher relay(el12 by novita from advance auto parts), wiring. switch, etc. After building my wiring harness and hooking everything up, my turn signals illuminate but do not flash. If I wire in a normal trailer style running light between the flasher relay and switch then it does flash, but really slow. do I need to get a different flasher relay or install some kind of resistance between the relay and switch? any help is appreciated as wiring is something I hate and don't really understand, i'm actually amazed that it even comes on...lol.
thanks in advance for any ideas

is that something I can get at a local auto parts store or do I need to order from a sight sponsor or online? has anyone else had a tecscan led light system.
