1984 Club Car resistor getting really hot

I have a 1984 Club Car 36 volt. Can't get much speed and will not back up with any kind of incline.
Just replaced all of the micro switches in the speed control
It was doing this before i changed these.
The motor has been rebuilt, I was thinking this was my problem.
So new motor/ no difference????

Any help is appreciated

this is a PQ Bandit motor. I know there are posts out there about upgrading this cart to a solid state controller. is there any other way to get a little more out of this cart?
I was going to replace all the solenoids and the F/R switch.
I am getting 13MPH on flat surface but will not climb a hill to save its life and will not back up any kind of incline as well.....

thoughts???

You might want to put a voltmeter on the pack and see what the pack voltage is at rest 12-24 hours after a charge. And again when the cart is failing to climb an incline.
The batteries may be weak cuz it should go uphill.

Sounds like weak batteries. Your level ground speed is what it should be stock. All of the resistors should be shorted out at full speed so you should have full battery voltage on the motor. If it can't climb a small hill, the batteries are pooping out on you.

Doesn't sound like his last solenoid in the sequence is closing maybe?

I agree, the first solenoid on the passenger side is not closing.
