Default Wire size recommendations

Have a 2000 CC DS. Just installed an alltrax 500 and admiral high torque motor. What size battery and motor cables should I use?

I plan on using the welding wire, with multie mini strands of copper. Tin coated copper terminals, adhesive heat shrink, and solder cups.

Should I go with 4 ga or 2 ga?

Thanks

From everything I've seen and read on here, the only way to go is 2 AWG.

A Sepex motor does not need any more than 4ga.

The 2ga cables would run cooler if You are running Your motor at low speed and under a heavy load.

There is really no performance difference between 4ga and 2ga cable, even in the case above is just a matter of a small efficiency problem during that period.

if You are still using the OBC, a 4ga cable will go through the OBC and You can solder the cable lug afterwards.

If You use 2ga cable, You will need to use a Stud to pass the cable through the OBC.

Sergio - Is 2000 ds sepex? Are you saying series 4ga is same as 2ga in performance? If so i will save a little coin on the next cart.

I saw the "Stock Sepex Motor" in his signature and thought we were talking about that motor.

If You have a High Torque Series Motor, a 500 amp controller and plan on doing a lot of crawling at slow speed, You probably should go with 2ga as it will run cooler.

Interesting because my dad has a "Beast 48HD" and it has a 600 controller and uses 4 GA factory.

I think some of the comments may have been to the second question about the series motor.

The "Beast 48HD" uses a Sepex motor, 4ga is really all you need.

4 is generally fine for all but the biggest of builds, the reason many of us go with 2 is that it only cost a few extra bucks to go with cables we know are bigger than we ever need. When you are a manf and your bottom line is cost you will go with the lowest cost that will get the job done...
