Speed from 97 CC Vglide 36V
This seems to be a common question and I have read all the posts I could find....but here I go looking for advice. I was recently given a 97 Club Car ds 36 volt VGlide with all resistor coils for speed control. The thing is in great condition but slow as heck (12 mph). Since it was free I dont mind upgrading for higher speed. It needs new batteries anyway so It appears I can go straight to 48V (6 X 8Volt batteries) right??? Upgrading of cables suggested??? all of them or just on the batteries(I see 4 gauge kits on e-bay that are just for batteries and now confused)?? Would a motor upgrade help or should I do gears with the motor I already have?? The motor in it now I think said 3 hp. Doing all the work is not a problem, I just need some guidance on which direction to go since I need new batteries and want to start in the right direction. stay 36 or go 48 ..if I stay 36 can I get 20 mph with gears or motor upgrades...I want to get about 20 to 22 mph is my goal...THANKS TO ALL !!!!! I am in Florida and pretty flat area as well

Welcome!!
Hang tight, Scottyb will be along shortly... This is right up his alley, he's converted a few of the older CC 36V resistor cars to 48V.. |

Re: Speed from 97 CC Vglide 36V
Yeh I have but, recently suffered a set back on one of the carts that was used for for heavy work at SLOW SPEED. THE CABLES MELTED AT THE RESISTORS. I have not seen the cart yet .... just a pic. It is coming back for a controller conversion....
But... prior to that I have personally driven a resistor cart for 1 year on 48 volts. Took it off roading where it couldn't make the hill and just sat there spinning the tires etc no problem......If you are gonna drive one of these ... and they are a great little 25% bump in speed and torque...You need to remember that the resistor coils are out of the power system at WOT and so that is where you want to be You can throw 48v and a solenoid in these and have some fun |

Re: Speed from 97 CC Vglide 36V
I understand now that 48V is doable on a 36V system..thanks. What about if I stick with 36V due to cost of then needing a new charger. Would new batteries, thicker cables and a motor upgrade get me more speed. Or stock motor and gear change?? I would prefer motor replace only since it is a lot easier and less work for me Im wondering what cons there are with sticking with a 36V system. The farthest it would go is 15mile roundtrip mostly at WOT, then be plugged in for an overnight recharge.

Re: Speed from 97 CC Vglide 36V
I just up graded a 97 CC 36 volt to 48. If you already need batterys all you need is a $40 solinoid and charger. the speed and torque increase is awsome!!! it is a 33% increase in voltage. I went from 16mph to 22 according to GPS.A new motor is going to cost more than a charger, then you need a controller and diff pot box for speed controll. If you do upgrade motor I'll buy your 36 v for a fair price. alot of people want those 36 volt motors for a reason

Re: Speed from 97 CC Vglide 36V
I read the tag off my cart motor and here is what it says:
part# 102237402 model# 5BC58JBS6362 VOLT = 36 Horseporer = 2.97 special service So you guys think with a 48V setup I will get up to around 20 with the motor I have. I will recable to 4 AWG. , no matter which way I go but here is my next question....Since the battery holders are set for 6 batteries...do I get 6 new 8V batteries or is there some other 'better' setup and a way of mounting it. Sorry for this last question it seems so basic but I dont want to assume and buy the wrong setup. AND>>>>THANKS FOR THE RESPONSES!!!!!!! |

8 volters will fit in the same space as the 6 volters, same size.
