Default Is there a way to temporarily limit speeds on precedent cart?

I have an 05 precedent. All stock except the limiter (speed code 4 I think) had been removed (and taller tires) by the previous owner. It goes 22-23mph which is too fast for my kids to be driving it. Is there a way that I can limit it temporarily when they are riding it? (My son is 16 that would be doing the driving but I don't want him hauling butt in the neighborhood or with my other kids on it). Thx

You need to have some faith in your children. Cars and wheels are important to them and they won't risk anything that would cost them their driving privileges.

Given its an IQ cart - I suppose you could put a switch between the motor speed sensor and the controller to cut the signal and force "limp" mode (AKA Sergio type solution?). But that would cut speed drastically to about 9mph.

You can easily change the max speed allowed by changing the resistance in the MCOR circuit and therefore the voltage range seen by the Controller.

Add a 6kΩ to 10kΩ - 1/2 watt resistor in series with the White/Black wire at the MCOR 3-pin connector.

Run a wire from each side of the resistor to a hidden ON/OFF switch, or a Keyed Switch at the dashboard.

When the Switch is ON, the resistor is by-passed and the Throttle works as normal.

When the Switch is OFF, the resistor is added in series with the Top of the MCOR and it limits the maximum signal sent to the Controller.

The 6kΩ resistor will limit the speed to approximately 50% speed.

The 10kΩ resistor will limit the speed to approximately 65% speed.

Edit: Option #2

Another Option is to cut and extend both sides of the White/Black wire from the MCOR to the Switch.

Solder the resistor between the 2 - posts of the switch.

Solder one of the wires in one side of the switch and the other wire in the other side of the switch.

The operation is the same as before, but that way the resistor is not exposed to moisture.

Perfect! This is the answe I was seeking. Thanks a bunch!

You must not have children lol. My kids will start out obeying me then as time goes on they will get faster and faster. How am I to know that they are speeding or not speeding unless
A) something happens or someone gets hurt
B) the police get called because they are driving wrecklessly
C) a neighbor informs me

I'm not about to take chances with the first option. I have a 6 year old and if he falls off a cart at full speeds (even slow speeds I know but the outcome may be much better) then he's really going to get hurt. I haven't been letting them drive
It because right now it's just too fast, but I feel bad about it because all the other kids in the neighborhood are riding around on their (much slower lol) parents carts.

Since You have a 2005 Precedent, the electronics are in between the batteries and the Controller 16-pin connector is facing up.

Pin #1 on the 16-pin connector is the White/Black wire of the MCOR circuit.

Just cut the wire there to tap into the circuit, it will be much easier.

Make sure You have the Tow/Run switch on Tow and disconnect the pack negative when working around the controller.

I think a Switch with a key will work better so You can "Lock" the speed and keep the key.

Please post updates and let us know how it worked for you.

Thanks a bunch. Ordering a keyed switch right now and looking for the resistor. I appreciate it and I'll post back how it works. May end up putting bullet connectors on the resistor so I can swap them easily if I want it slower at the campgrounds.
