Default Power Drive 3 charger problem

I'm having trouble with my charger, when I would plug it in it would peg out like normal, then after a few seconds it would shut off and not do anything. I brought it to a "repair" shop and they changed the black breaker on the front. When I got it home I tried it and it came on for a few seconds and shut off, then it would slightly jump. Unplugged it and tried again, now it just clicks and does nothing. Tried it on a buddy of mine cart and does the same, and his charger works on my cart. Any help would be appreciated.

We can quickly isolate which side of the Transformer has the problem.

Disconnect the DC cord from the cart.

Disconnect the AC plug from the wall.

Set your meter to continuity or 200Ω.

Place the meter probes on the 2 AC blades on the plug.

Plug the DC cord to the cart.

When You hear the relay click (and the ammeter go negative), You should get continuity on the meter.

If no continuity is detected, The problem is with the AC breaker or relay contacts.

If there is continuity, The issue is with the fuse or both rectifiers are bad.

Post Your result and also which specific Power Drive 3 model number (5 digit) You have.

There are two models and they have different rectifiers inside.

There are site sponsors that carry all the repair parts and kits to replace just about anything on those chargers.

RevolutionGolfCars.com is a good knowledgeable vendor for those parts.

Check the fuse on the back of the charger first:

if it is good, You need to replace the 2 diode assemblies:

By the way, the breaker does not have an intermittent behavior, it either trips or it works.

Sounds like it is a bad connection, which I find quite often while repairing these chargers.............After repairing several dozen that act this way I can say that when they respond the way your unit is acting it is always a bad connection.............I find this in units where the people transport their chargers around a lot and this causes the connections to become unstable and dislodge

Thanks Sergio...

Dale-D, I agree with you. I think that there may be a bad connection on one of the diode strips in the back of the charger. If it's an early PD3 charger, it won't have the diode strips. It'll have a regular 4 wire rectifier. The 103517401 kit Sergio mentioned will work as a direct replacement for either configuration. It's sold as a conversion kit for the old rectifier style chargers, but if you've got the diode strips you simply take them off of the new board and bolt them into your charger. Club Car does not sell the diode strips individually for your charger. You must buy the kit.

The fuse is good, after taking a few things loose, I found a broken prong on the top diode. Will order replacement kit and let you know. Thanks again

Ok got the parts in and changed them, plugged in the charger and it pegged out to 15 amps then shut off. Waited and nothing happened. Unplugged and plugged back in and did the same thing except this time it came back on to 15 and then dropped to 0 amps and would flutter up to about 5 amps and back to 0. It did this a few times occasionally jumping to 15 and then shut off. ? ? ?
