Default Help choosing a charger

I recently purchased an 89 club car with 2month old 36v batteries. The charger he gave me is one of the small $75 5A eBay chargers that is about the size of a small book. It works half the time and when it does decide to work, it doesn't seem to charge well. I borrowed a an old school club car charger that was pushing 20-25A on the gauge and only had the opportunity to charge it for a couple hours and it was night and day.

I get online and look but not sure what options I need to look for. Mine has the the crow foot plug.

Do I need to be at a certain amperage while charging? The more the better?

You want to be close to 10% of the battery amperage capacity to properly bulk charge. This is why batteries serviced with a 5a charger stagnate and lose capacity.

What is the amperage of my batteries or how do I find out?

Most 6v batteries are 200 - 225 amp hours and most 8v are 160-190 amp hours... The DPI specs out at 18 amp (36v) on the bulk charge. Importantly, it also has a 5 stage charge algorithm and a float mode which makes it the most complete battery charge and maintenance machine out there.
