CC Caroche purchase and build?

Guys, I have been looking to build a cart for road use, both my other carts are more off road use and I want a street cruiser. I don't bother making my current carts look nice since they are always dirty and getting beat to death, I want a street cart I can make look nice.

I found this caroche for sale on craigslist.


I have always like these old Club Car's. I don't think the asking price is terrible for my area.

I do have some questions.

I know the rear ends are different from the modern CC carts as are the motors. What are my options for motors? Can I change the rear out for a DS rear without too much headache?

I would like to try out one of the Alltrax XCT 500 controllers with a high performance motor.

I would like to see 30+ mph, since both my other (72volt) carts go at least that fast.

I already have a relatively new 48 volt (8x6volt) battery pack and a 48 volt dpi charger, that are waiting for a project. I also have a pile of still good 2g cables and most of what I will need to build it out, including several throttle options.

I need a motor and controller, I really want to go with regen/sepex on this build.

I would even be willing to rewind the stator coils to match a sepex controller. Rewinding the rotor is beyond my skill set at this point.

So help me build a fun road cart! What don't I know, that I need to know?

it has hydraulic brakes that are hard to find
it is very hard to find the steering components
going to 48v would be a question for scottyb or dave
a modern rear with motor would be a good idea
i have a chance to get one for free ... but not sure if i want it

First off, I have never seen a complete Caroche in that great of condition. You might as well get a modern rear end if you are going to convert to controller. The splines on the original Baldor motor are external spline and new motors are internal. OR...If you decide to use the original motor, I highly suggest a rebuild at EMP Inc. They made mine bulletproof and I went with the switchable redesign. These people work miracles.

I am going to take a look at it this weekend. I am glad to know EMP will rebuild those motors that may be a good option.

Hi, I own two of these that I picked up in the past year are so and are in storage for future rebuilds. The one you are looking at is in really nice shape but as mentioned I would go with something else for street use. These are slow carts from stock and they are almost impossible to get parts for. I searched for some time and found some bushings, selonoids, micro switches but that's about it. Good luck with your search

Brake parts are available minus lines which you could make but parts are expensive.

Somewhat true, but besides the brakes, rearend, and motor, it is a DS resistor cart. Parts are easy to find.

Body parts and trim notch so much. I have one down to the frame, the body was bad and I gave it to our local vocational school as a project. I should have it back by June and I hope they did a good job. I have taken all trim off and have removed years of overspray and oxidation and that's coming up really nice for it's age.

Hi my name is Don and I have a golf cart problem, its only been a few hours since I bought a a golf cart. LOL


Its in decent shape. No rot at all on the fiberglass. Just a few dings but no big deal. The steering is tight and the spring seem good too.


Thats the worst of the fiberglass damage.


The shifter is staying for sure.

They guy I bought it from said he took it to a shop to get it fixed. They told him the motor was dead and it would cost $1,200 to replace it. As soon as I got home I tested the motor and drove it around the yard on 12 volt battery, so I don't know why they told him the motor was bad.

This weekend I need to get the brakes sorted out, if I can fix them Ill keep the original rear end. If I can't fix them I am going to try to put a DS rear in it.
