Default Charger not shutting off, batteries not charged

So, this 48 volt club car I'm rebuilding for a friend was neglected by previous owner, batteries are interstate and about 2-3 years old. Just finished installing 500 amp GE controller, scottyb heavy duty solenoid, obc stud, #4 cables throughout. Cart is running! The previous owner stated the charger wasn't shutting off when we took ownership. Now that I have everything rewired and updated I thought I would see how it charged. I've had it charging for up to 7 hours and charger doesn't shut off, and charger not to zero, it's down to about three bars left. With charger plugged in and after a few hours the pack is reading 47.9, and all batteries are at 9.4. I reset the obc per the sticky here after batteries charged for a few hours. I know there are a lot of threads on this topic, but trying to read through them all was a lot to take in, so apologies for another one! Lol
How do I trouble shoot or figure out what's going on! I did put my charger on it, a known good charger, and it did the same thing, granted I only had it charging for a few hours with my charger.

Ok so first off the numbers you posted simply don't add up; under 48 volts as a whole means that the batteries are dead and 9.4 x 6 56

You also need to be plugging the charger in for more than a few hours at a time if you expect the charger to finish charging the neglected batteries. The OBC will time out the charger after 16 hours regardless so plug it in and let it do its thing.

You have a meter problem if your batteries are at 9.4 and the pack is under 48. Does not add up! 9.4 would be fully charged.

okay, I'll plug charger in and let it run, I was a little freaked out about it not stopping. I'll do this and give update. Also, I spaced last night, correct pack voltage is 56.8.
Thanks!

During the charge cycle you may see voltage upward of 60 volts.

One battery is reversed,

9.4 x 6 = 56.4 - 9.4= 47,..??

I'm hopping the problem is that there is no problem and all he was seeing is voltage higher than he expected simply as he was checking during the charging process.

During the Finish or Equalizing stage you may see voltage as high as 64.8 to which voltage of 56.4 to 58.8 will be seen during the earlier Absorption stage

Main (+) ---{+ 8 -}---{+ 8 -}---{+ 8 -}---{+ 8 -}---{+ 8 -}---{+ 8 -}---Main (-)

If you take a reading from Main (+) to Main (-) you get total pack voltage and if you take a reading from the + & - on any one battery to get the voltage for that one battery...

Also every time you interrupt the charging cycle by unplugging the cart from the charger and/or reset the OBC you are going to be restarting the charge cycle from the beginning again....

Hey teecro, so when I reported 47 volts the other night, I spaced and was checking voltage from #1 and #5, when I realized I rechecked, getting 56.8 for the pack, that was a few hours into the charge.l, and 9.4 each battery. I let it charge yesterday until I went to bed, 15 hours, couldn't stay up for the last hour, and was afraid something might go wrong in the last hour. at 15 hours it still was not at full charge. I guess I need to stop freaking out and let it go!

Here's a thought. If your batteries are bubbling they are charged. When they are bubbling they are just using up the excessive energy the charger is applying. It's got to go somewhere.
