Default Lifted club car brakes locking up

Thanks in advance for the help. My father son project hit a major snag. After lifting out 2015 cc precedent (48v, 6x8v) with a 3 inch jakes spindle lift kit and replacing the driver side brake cable with a all sports passenger one so everything would fit nicely on our HD lead spring set ; we have an issues.

1) the brakes engage with the slightest touch on the pedal (but free with out any pressure)

2) but more scary is that the lock up after a couple of second of brake pressure. I followed behind the cart on a scooter to see what was happening and the axle actually rotates once pressure is applied and that causes the brakes to lock up.

I can't tighten the u bolts any more as there is barely a thread visible at the bottom. And also the supplied Allen bolt that fits inside the old axle plate where the spring used to go is too tall so there is space between it and the new bottom plate.

Please help as after a few weeks jakes (online / buggies) has been no help. The unit arrived opened, missing a king pin bolt, no mention that the brake cable wouldn't fit etc... And it creaks like crazy in reverse from the rear axle...

Any ideas on how to fix this easily?

Look for a pinned thread by TahoeDawg about brakes. You need to change the orientation of the drum brake system.

Thanks for that but that seems excessive, no? I was told this was plug and play which it hasn't been (new brake cable) but if I flip the rotors I will still get axle rotation when I brake because 1) there is space for 2 quarters between the bottom of the axle plate and the bottom plate because the Allen screw is too long and 2) I can't get the bolts tight.

you need to go to a longer U bolt to stop the twisting

The jakes kit only has a single u bolt on each... I'll look for a longer one for sure. I think part of the problem is that the head on the Allen bolt is too long and is pressing against the axle... So in theory I need to find a auto grade Allen bolt that or shorter and a u bolt that is longer

Any other ideas? This may just be Due to a 2015 /2016 unit (not refurb)

Thanks for all help and for this sticky. Flipped my brakes over and they lined up perfectly using my medium duty leaf springs. Cart sits level brakes work great and cables are up out of the way. Great idea. Thanks again
