Lights and accessories
Okay, need some more help - Onto headlights, taillights, and a Ipod type receiver. I'm wiring everything using a scottbyb 48-12 volt converter, and running both positive and negative buss bars. I've just about finished up the converter wiring following Sergio and teecro's advice.
1. Headlights - Can I wire up using a good high amp headlight switch and not use a relay? The headlights are 55 watt x 2 halogen type off road lights. How do I determine fuse rating, and where does the fuse actually go. 2. LED taillights - Assuming should run on a separate circuit for fuse, how do I determine fuse rating? 3. Sound system head unit - Same question, how to determine fuse rating? |

Re: Lights and accessories
Watts divided by volts = amps plus some extra = fuse size so for a pair of 55 watt driving lights I'd go with a 15 amp fuse and fuses are only to protect the wiring so fuses like the breakers in your house are installed closest to where you get the power from. So closest to your power bar.... For LED tail-lights some thing like a 2 amp fuse may be plenty big enough...

Amp draw determines wire size
Wire size determines fuse size Fuse at or as close to the power source as possible. As teecro said, fuse protects wire from melting/burning, so you want it close to sourse. What size wire are you using for the lights? If the radio needs fuse it's usually included in the harness, right at the unit. These are typically very small fuses, and are separate from the circuit fuse. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N910A using Tapatalk |
