97 DCS Alltrax DCX 400 amp controller cover
hello I bought a new alltrax DCX 400a controller about 7 years ago, when I installed it, i fit the stock controller cover over the controller (mistakenly apparently) and was able to use the top 2 bolts to secure it. The cover doesn't completely cover the bottom half of the controller.
I will be swapping out the solenoid and possibly going to 42 volts, what are suggestions about using a controller cover or do I need one? Recent posts suggest not covering the alltrax. thanks in advance. |

Re: 97 DCS Alltrax DCX 400 amp controller cover
the cover is not necessary unless you get into a lot of mud or water, it can help keep the connections to the motor controller clean, if you are upgrading to a larger solenoid the cover may no longer fit over it anyway. In the past i have cut the bottom of the cover off about 3/4 of the way down so it would flush up with the sides of the heatsink. if you choose not to use the cover get a flat piece of metal or plastic and build a bracket to relocate the tow run switch to the top of the heatsink in one of the original holes for the cover

Re: 97 DCS Alltrax DCX 400 amp controller cover
The Alltrax control is potted in resin and has cooling fins. Resin potting eliminates vibration damage and keeps water out. Cooling fins dissipate heat and work best when exposed to cooler circulating air.
For years this (below) has been the alternative. Retaining the top third of the cover keeps the orig. run tow switch mount and keeps water running behind the seat cushion off of the plug ins which are not water proofed. |

Awesome!, thanks again all. Scotty I'll have some questions about a new solenoid and 42 vs 36 coming soon (first I'll cut up my cover!)
