Default 88 club car to play with

I bought this cart for the frame and front suspension to build a 4x4 single seat buggie out of, but for now I am wanting to play around with it to see how much performance I can get out of it. I thought about replacing the wire coils on the solenoids with battery cables. Has anyone tried this? I don't want to ruin the motor right away, but I don't really care about the motor, rear end, or any of the electrical. Any ideas that any of you have had but cared too much about your cart to try? I will be pulling 3 12 volt batteries from my vehicles to test it, so I know it won't go very long but I should be able see if there are any differences in its performance. Let me know what you think?

DO NOT USE CABLES !!!
the coatings will melt and catch fire

the resistor coils are designed so they dissipate the electric current

using anything but the proper coils is asking for trouble

The coils are actually high power resistors. They regulate the power going to the motor. If you don't use proper coils, you will not get proper speed control.

They are hooked up now. I would be alright with on/off. I was just looking to see what I could get an electric cart to do by changing a few things that are free or really cheap, as I wont be using this rear end and engine in the future. My thinking was that you are still losing a lot of current through the coils. right now, the cart is missing one of the solenoids, I think it is supposed to have 3 speeds, I can hear the solenoids clicking but the cart will only move on the 2nd stage and not at all in reverse. since I don't plan to leave it electric, if I start frying things, no big loss.

OK 36 volt, I think it had 6-6 volt batteries, could I use 6-12 volt batteries if I hooked half of them in parallel and the other half in a series so it will still get 36 volts. I would change out all the power cables with an old ground cable from my welder that is twice as thick as the stock ones.

What about adding another set of coils and solenoids?

You may be playing with a bomb. 36 volts is more powerful than you may think.
Also what you are talking about will likely catch fire and burn the cart down.

Put on some safety equipment and have fun, or just strip it down and sell the parts.

yes . but will not make it faster
reverse is the green cable off the f/r switch , it is 18 v from the factory
if your move it to the main pack positive it gives you 36v

the cart was made to drive on a golf course at 12~15 mph

as you can see by the diagram solenoid carts ended in 1987
so i dont think you have an 88
check the serial number under dash
serial number location

you can by pass the whole solenoid coil set up and dump 36v into your motor
