72 volt Club Car Precedent upgrade?

I searched but could not find any threads specifically on this topic, but I was wondering, if the time has come to buy all new batteries, how difficult would it be to turn your 48 volt cart into a 72 volt one by using 6 x 12v batteries vs. 6 x 8v? I realize that at the very least, the speed controller and any voltage reducers in use would likely have to be upgraded / changed as well. But for example, my 2010 CC Precedent is a stock cart motor/controller/wire etc, I have the bigger tires and lift kit, rear seat like a lot of people, but the stock controller and 3.3hp motor.

From what I've read here, it would seem like the stock motor might be able to handle the 72 volts, and you could potentially get a lower amp consumption if I am thinking right, and obviously more speed and torque, assuming the motor can dissipate the heat.

I'm curious if anyone here has done this type of upgrade or if it's even worth it...

That's one fast cart. I see the stock motor has been swapped for a big 10hp one. I wonder what the stock 3.3hp one would do under a similar setup? In my case, I don't want to do 42mph, seems like it would be a bit scary on a raised cart :), 25-30mph is more than enough for me, plus a torque boost.

If you over power your stock motor it will fry in short order. (Been there!)

This is a high amp, heavy duty "series" conversion. It's a totally different animal than anything on your stock Precedent. Like VoltAmpere says, a system of this magnitude will fry your stock motor in no time. However, 25-30 MPH is definitely feasible. There are plenty of combinations available that will get you what you want without having to do a series conversion.

Yes the speed controller you have there is probably way more than I was looking for, I'm sure anything bigger than the 250 amp one I have would be better than I already have. So the stock motor wouldn't handle 72 volts? Wouldn't have thought the motor would be the limitation there, good to know! I'm sure in my case a 5hp motor would more than sufficient if I ever did a motor upgrade, I have my kids that will be driving it someday can't have them doing 40+mph down the subdivision but we do get on a highway from time to time and a little extra speed to get on and back off the highway would be good. Might stick with my 48volts system.

I guess there really isn't a very cheap way to get 5 or 10mph once you already have a 48v with the fast speed code programmed. Contacted Robbie a while back with plumquick he didn't recommend the Bandit motor for my setup since I have the bigger wheels and lift kit. I think he said it would overheat the motor.

Do you guys have any recommendations that won't brake the bank to get the little extra mph and torque from my stock setup? I like some of the things ScottyB sells, he I know, is reputable here and prices are very reasonable compared to most. Could it be done for under $500? I wonder is just changing to 4awg battery cables, and maybe a 400amp controller and possibly the bigger solenoid (if needed?) would do the trick and keep the stock motor, and the system at 48v?

I may have answered my own question, this kit looks good, around $700 for the upgrade it comes with a 400amp controller, 200amp solenoid, 4 gauge wires, it says 22-24mph with stock motor and tires, which I have the bigger tires and already can do 20mph.... should do at least 25mph I'm guessing... a bit more than I wanted to spend but I realize this isn't a cheap hobby.

Is the fan necessary, I don't live in a hilly area, flat ground everywhere...

update:
After communicating with ScottyB it sounds like in theory one could get maybe 28mph from a setup like I mentioned, assuming new batteries, properly inflated tires, and every condition just right (terrain, wind, load etc) - So more than likely I can achieve 25mph I'm betting.
