2-Speed motor results?

I'm getting ready to send my motor to EMP for reworking. Since I see EMP advertises on this site I figured they must have plenty of satisfied customers. So I'm debating the sense of going with the 2-speed option. Can anyone who has gone the 2-speed route tell me what kind of results they are seeing?

I have a 36V CC that I upgraded to 48V. I'm currently at about 16MPH and would like to see 20 and maybe 25 at high speed. I still have the stock 24-36V 375A controller. I don't want to set my expectations too high and be disappointed.

If your running 48v through your 36v controller it will be toast in a short order. Controllers are very voltage sensitive. Hopefully you have a 36-48v controller.

no... this is on a 95 48v cc

I'm already running 48V through my stock 36V controller. So far no problems. In fact my controller is a 24-36V so I'm really exceeding it.

From what I can tell from others who have done this same 36-48 upgrade, the controller, solenoid and F/R switch, while not optimal, are able to handle the additional voltage fine.

There is no way your running 48 volts through a stock 24-36 volt controller and it still works. I'm calling BS....you have no idea what your talking about or don't have 48 volts going to it. A controller rated for 24 to 36 volts is not able to run 48 volts and last.

BTW, stock controllers are not rated at 375 amps.

Fedude, I have searched the site and I can't find the member who says they are running 48v thru their 36v controller and that " while it is not optimim it is handling it okay" .... Can you link me to this discussion?

I generally have a lot of respect for what you post on this forum and I find your information tremendously helpful. I've learned a lot from your posts. You know a lot about carts. However, I'll have to respectfully offer that there are areas of carts that may be beyond your abilities of comprehension. I'll offer that 36-48V upgrades in a CC are one of them. My story is not BS.

Here are two pictures taken from my cart. The first one is of the battery case. It shows 6-8V batteries hooked up in serial. Notice the 4-gauge wiring.



The next one is the plate on my "stock" controller. I did make a mistake saying it was 375A. In fact it's only 275A. But clearly it shows 24-36V.



My cart runs 16-17MPH with this setup. No fires, no meltdowns. I don't know what else I can do to show you that you are wrong on this one. If these pic's don't convince you, then you'll just have to trust me.

Now if you were to tell me that I'm headed for trouble by driving this controller with 48V, I would respect your experience. I may well be, although others with similar experience to yours (on the other forum) have told me that I should be fine. But to say that the controller can't possibly be driving the cart, would be inaccurate.

Have you ever done a 36-48V upgrade and left the controller intact? Maybe this baby is stronger than you "think".

I comprehend more than you know. I also comprehend you don't have your 48 volt charger yet. You may "think" your running 48 volts through a 24-36 volt controller but you are mistaken. You possibly have one battery ran in parrallel and don't know it or your batteries are so low they total what a 36 volt pack does. The last one is probly right, Did your charger come in? In another post you made yesterday afternoon you said you couldn't tell the state of the batteries and were waiting on your 48 volt charger to arrive? Your right about one thing....your defineately headed for trouble.


Your not going to get on here and post that you can do it. Guest's read all of this and someone else will try it and fry their controller....and when they do, YOU will be the one that told them it was OK. Don't bother trying to prove it.

DO NOT TRY TO RUN 48 VOLTS THROUGH A CONTROLLER THAT IS NOT RATED FOR 48 VOLTS.
