2002 Club Car series. Am I pushing the limits?
I ran out to a couple properties and was riding down some firebreaks. Soil was soft and road was bumpy so I could only go 3-5mph. Took 30 minutes to go in and 30 to get out. When coming out I noticed a whining noise coming from controller or motor. Got back to the truck and everything was hot. Wires, controller and motor too hot to leave my hand on it.
I have the heavy duty forward switch, 500 amp controller, Beast motor and 4 gauge wires. I was thinking that moving so slow for so long in torque mode was the reason for all the heat. I am going to run it on the paved road this afternoon and see if I get the same heat. Also going to check all my cable connections. |

Going slow does run things pretty hot. You might want to get an infrared thermometer to measure the motor case temp next time you run it like this. Make sure you are not getting the motor hotter than recommended. I cooked my stock motor with a 500A controller - dialed down to 400 Amps. I now have a D&D motor and it runs much cooler.

2002 Club Car series. Am I pushing the limits?
I just checked the Current Limit on the Flight Systems controller and its turned to 100%.
Should I back it down some? BTW, No heat on the motor or wires after a 2 mile run wide open this evening. |

Wide-open uses much less current than crawling if you're going to go on the trail again turn it down way down
