Default Battery comparison

I'm needing a set of 8 volt batteries for my Club Car. Of course everybody says that they have the best! I know that most people has their preference. My question is when talking to a battery sales man/women what is a good clue of a good battery? Do you pay more attention to 20HR or maybe weight. There's a 6 volt battery I seen had a 225HR. So how come another battery I seen in a 8 volt only had 183HR? I would think a 8 volt would have more HR than a 6 volt. The biggest Ezgo cart dealer in our area says that Tro 6 or 8 volt batteries are the best. What do I really need to ask to find a good 8 volt battery for my cart? Thanks

Your second sentence and third sentence say it all. Some people here say get the most amps for the least dollars. I would say go with a good brand. Trojan, Crown and maybe US battery. As far as amps, the lower the voltage the higher the amps. Most 8 volt batteries run around 160/190 amps. Trojan has a few that are higher and therefore more expensive. I recently bought some Trojan T-875s for $712 from King of Carts in SC, So far so good. Had NAPA s before, came with the cart they lasted 5 years. Some people say they are crap. Good luck in your search. What do you friends have?

I just went through the same situation. I searched this site for hours and called 3 local shops for recommendations. I came up with Trojan and Crown are considered by most to be the best choices with US Battery rounding out the top 3. Most everything else was 50/50. I've read maintenance was more important than the actual battery.

I called local shops for pricing, found a dealer in MA on craigslist, called Crown battery direct, and the local NAPA. Apparently pricing is very subject to you location. I'm in CT so pricing seems a lot higher than in the south. I went with Trojan T-875 for $840 installed. He came to my house pulled the old batteries and dropped the new ones in. No hassle at all on my part. I also got a price on Crown CR190 for $128ea +tax +cores but went with the Trojans instead since it was less hassle.

That sounds like a good deal to me. The 875's local to me are $125+tax picked up by me (with core)

The biggest mistake you can make is going with the lowest price. Buy the best you can and not have to worry about for 5 yrs.

That's my question. Maybe the cheapest is the best. How do they rate batteries? What should I look for to tell the best battery? I just talked to a neighbor and he said Trojans are the best, but couldn't tell me how he came up with that conclusion other than that's what he had! Thanks

Here's is one line of reasoning. If you take all of the labels off of the batteries they all have the the same size and shape. This could lead to some mislabeling and possible counterfeiting. Like we hear so often "Cheap Chinese knock off" But what are the batteries that come out on top in any poll? The one that don't look like all the rest and thus harder to mislabel. They are the Trojans and the Interstates to name a few. JMHO.

I went with the Trojan Ranger 160s. So far just getting through break in, I find that I'm doing fine with trips up to eight miles not taking them down very much, easy and quick recharge and holding the charge if I don't use the cart for a few days. Hopefully that will continue for a few years.
