Should I move all of my negative connections to the OBC?
Greetings! I've been following the forum for awhile and have seen several posts recommending that all negative connections for accessories should be connected to the (-) side of the OBC so that it can monitor the current used by the accessories for charging. I purchased my 2010 Precedent from a local shop that wired the light kit to 2 of the 8v batteries, both positive and negative leads. I installed my own LED underbody kit, so I installed the voltage reducer to 2 of the 8v batteries, just like the original light kit. I recently had a different golf cart shop install a stereo system. They installed another voltage reducer to provide current to the stereo and amp. I BELIEVE that they did connect the negative lead to the controller because they actually fried it and had to replace it as a part of the install.
How important is it for me to change the wiring on the original light kit and the small voltage reducer that I installed to have the negative lead go to the OBC? |

My advice would be to run all of your accessories off a voltage reducer connected/source powered through the ENTIRE pack. This reducers uneven wear on your batteries. That's how I do all of my custom carts.

I ran a 8ga wire from the ocb to a buss bar and all my negative wires hook to that. Then ran my voltage reducer to a second Buss Bar for ant accessories I want or need. works out great.

Do you connect the negative to the negative of the pack or the OBC? |
