Max rpm on Admiral MOT-A2
Just bought a 2008 club car precedent converted to street legal here in NC.... It came with an Admiral MOT-A2 motor and the original curtis 275 controller. I have 18.5" in tires. The max speed I can get is 22 mph.
I changed out the controller to a Alltrax-XCT-48400 IQ controller and changed wires to 4 ga. along with a heavy duty solenoid and diode. Set it up with 5900 rpm max using speed controller check box and I don't get more than 23 mph. Started fooling around with the max rpm setting and pushed it to 6800 rpm. Now I get almost 28 mph, but my rpm on the Alltrax monitor software is bouncing around 6400-6500 rpm. So my question for being new to this is what would be the highest rpm I can push the MOT-A2 motor and be safe. I like the top speed (28 mph) but am worried about the rpm. Thanks ahead for all answers Rick |

Re: Max rpm on Admiral MOT-A2
You will have to ask the Manufacturer but I wouldn't go above 6000 RPM until you do.

Re: Max rpm on Admiral MOT-A2
Thanks, that is a good idea. Just need to find phone # of manufacturer. When I search online for admiral motors all I get is distributors. Maybe I will contact a few of the distributors and see if they know the upper (safe) limit of rpm for the MOT-A2.

5000 RPM should give you 23 mph and 6000 RPM should give you 27 mph use a speed calculator maybe you're sensing too many pulses

Re: Max rpm on Admiral MOT-A2
I used a calculator and it shows 5300 rpm = 23.1 mph. This is what I get when I set max rpm to 5900. While watching ALLtrax software monitor function 5300 rpm is all I get when set at 5900 rpm max. When I set to 6800 max I get 6300-6400 rpm which calculates to 27.4 and 27.9 mph. So it looks like what ever I set the max rpm at I get 400-600 rpm less. I can work with that, I just need to know what is the max that I can "safely" push the MOT-A2 to.
I think full operating rpm is 5900, but I would like to know if I can run a bit more (6200-6400 rpm) for short times without damage to the motor Thanks |

Re: Max rpm on Admiral MOT-A2
That is a 9 hp IQ motor that is good for at least 24 miles an hour so 25 and 26 I would say you're good. For the motor to go 24 mph on the stock tires I would think there has been some extra binding done which is what keeps the motor together at high rpm

Thank you for the information. So I think that if I don't push the cart past 26 or 27 for short periods I should be ok. The majority of time I'll be cruising 15-20 mph so hopefully I should be ok.
