Default Lestronic II 2-pin charger for a 3-pin Clubcar DS

Hello, I apologize if this is a common question, but searching the forum has not yielded results for me.

I am new to karts and am trying to connect a Lestronic II charger to my 90s Clubcar DS. While the voltage (48V) matches, the plugs do not. The charger is the 2-pin model (charger option "98") whereas the clubcar, of course, has the 3-pin round connector.

When I bought the charger I figured that this problem could be easily solved but I have since realized that it may be a bit more complicated.

What I have determined so far is that I will have to bypass the OBC either way but what I cannot seem to figure out is how to get from 2 pins to 3 without messing things up.

Also, could I simply hook up the charger to the batteries directly (first and last) as an - albeit not very elegant - alternative?

Any input would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers
Faber

They are very helpful at lestronic and if you call there tech support you will get the help you need. Just have the model of your charger including serial number and your cart serial number handy before the call.

I don't think they are compatible. The round 3 prong, works with the obc, the other charger does not.

Thank you all! I will try with Lester Electric next.

In general I believe it is just a matter of bypassing the OBC and getting the plug pins right. Since the charger model is not equipped to expect that "sense lead" pin and the OBC will no longer be involved, all I should be left with is is plus and minus...

Just make sure it's a smart charger. If it is you are correct and can purchase the plug on line. When you use the charger put the plug through the steering wheel so you never drive off with it plugged in. Read the manual for your charger on line it has good tips.

This is the OBC by-pass procedure for the series carts if you have not already seen it.

Thanks again, all, for your tips and advice; I have been able to get it to work.

Here are the steps in case anybody encounters the same challenge:

1) Replaced the Anderson SB-50 plug on the Lester Lestronic II charger with the 3-Pin Round DPI DC plug. Here only the plus and minus pins are involved and the 3rd "sense" pin remains unused. I did not even install that 3rd pin in the plug.

2) Bypassed the Clubcar's OBC by connecting the minus pole of the kart's plug receptacle to the minus pole of the first battery. Instead of going directly to the receptacle I connected the wire to the attached fuse adapter, which made for a much easier connection without splicing. This part took no time, really.

Given that - by the looks of it - my charger is also quite old, I was very happy to hear it start up after inserting the plug. The charge went perfect and my boys are very happy :).

Cheers from Switzerland!
