battery usage on '91 DS
I have a '91 DS with the resistor coils. Because the cart is using more resistance to lower the speed, does this mean I am using the same amount of battery "juice" regardless of what speed I am going?
I guess what I am asking is, If I get 1.5 hrs at 15 miles an hour, would I also get 1.5 hours at 5 miles an hour? or would I get closer to 3 hours? If I want to be able to wander aimlessly for a longer period of time, without any worry about how far I travel, would a slower speed allow me longer time? Next question: If I was to upgrade to a solid state system instead of the resistor coils, would there be a benefit in terms of distance or time I would be able to travel? I know there is only so much juice in a set of batteries, I am more wondering if the solid state would be more efficient than the resistor coils, or there would not be enough gain to justify the price. |

Re: battery usage on '91 DS
You understanding is correct. the resistor coil drive system draws 100% off the pack regardless of the speed you ask for. The unused portion is burned off (wasted) by the resistor coil. The slower you go the more wasting is going on...
Conversion to solid state will stop the burning off and draw only 10% of the pack if that is what is asked for. Go to my website here for a little lengthier explanation > http://www.cartsunlimited.net/why-co...-drive---.html |

The tin foil hat guys can give the technical reasons better than I, but I can tell you this. If you read every post in this site you will find that nobody regrets making the conversion, nobody! The closest thing you'll find as a regret is some wished they had picked a bigger controller.
