48v-12v power reducer problem
I got a power reducer from ScottyB and was finishing up the install when something didn't appear right so I hope ScottyB sees this. 95 CC DS 48v, hooked up the wires like the instructions showed, ran the yellow wire to the key switch and hooked it to the same post the idiot light is on, then hooked up the positive to the #1 battery but when I went to hook up the negative to #6 battery it sparked. I have went over my work for the last hour and can figure out what's wrong, any ideas?

Re: 48v-12v power reducer problem
If you are SURE that you hooked it up correctly then mo than like there is NOTHING wrong... Those power reducers DO tend to throw a spark when hooked up for the first time to the power supply as there are capacitors in there that all but suck up energy like water to a sponge the first time...

Re: 48v-12v power reducer problem
Since I don't have the wiring diagram to look at I have to assume that you are correct in wire placement and will again say YES those things will spark the first time they are hooked to a power source even if they are still turned off... The caps suck up energy!

Ok then. Wiring diagram is on Scotty's website. Thanks, I just don't want to burn it down

Double check that your key switch is positive, not negative.

Re: 48v-12v power reducer problem
Forgive me, I'm not the sharpest tool in the box when it comes to electronics. How do I check that?
hmmm, something's going on because I went ahead and hooked it up and nothing got hot so I hooked up my light bar and sure'nuff it worked, but then I turned off the key switch and the lights still worked. there's a blue wire on one side and a green wire and white/orange on the other side. the orange/white wire goes to the battery light |

Re: 48v-12v power reducer problem
The keyswitch has 2 terminals. One is hot all the time..... one is hot in on position only. Sounds like you are a-okay but maybe connected to the wrong side of the keyswitch.
