Club Car, newbie to 36volt systems

Good morning, I am new to site but have found to be very informative.

I just recently bought a 1990 36volt golf car. I was told batteries are only 2 years old, and cart was not used much just sat on car lot and only use was someone test driving it. (I believe that the cart got new batteries and just sat) I know nothing about this golf cart stuff, when I went and picked up cart, batteries were dead pushed on trailer, took home charged 12 hours I have a lester timer charger, 3 days later went golfing right away I thought cart seemed very slow, made to first green and noticed very slow up hill. made it 2 more holes and was cart was dead had to be pushed back to club house. After reading posts on here I know that I may have really messed up. I sense have charged cart.

I checked battery voltage yesterday had 6.25 volts which I now know is 80% charged, yesterday I also tested each battery and with tester, load was at very top of weak just barely in weak range. Checked and cleaned all connections, the pedal linkage is good, the v (thing that gives more speed) seems to work when I jack up cart I can hear speed increase at each copper block. With cart jacked up and pedal all the way down voltage went from 36.1 down to 32.?? than came back up to 33.?? and ran there only held pedal at most 30 seconds. battery liquid levels are good also. wiring looks good according to prints found in a post on here.

My few questions are
Do you believe my batteries are shot?

When I charge batteries what is recommended time? and once charge is complete to I need to unhook charger or is it fine plugged in until next time I use cart, I will charge after each use.

Is there any thing else I need to check before replacing batteries

If the batteries were dead when you picked up the cart, they have not been kept charged like they should have been. They are likely not very good. Sounds like you will be buying a new set.

when charger turns off check voltage after 12hr rest

After a 12-hour charge, drive the cart for a short time, then charge again. Basically, follow the "break-in procedure" that's on ScottyB's site that's meant for new batteries.

Likely as not, the batteries are about shot, but it's worth a try to resurrect them.

batteries must be shot I did the 12 hour charge then the 6 hour charge. 12 hour rest and check across pack was 37.3. Then I drove around yard for 5 minutes no power at all couldn't hardly go through grass mowed yesterday.. Let sit for an hour then checked volts across pack and is at 36.86.. The guy who sold me cart is trying to tell me it's got one bad battery.

You need to look at the voltage under load - one battery at a time.

Each battery unhooked was at 6.13.. I will test volts under load..

That's like 60% state of charge. I bet at least 1, possibly more drop to nothing under load.
