2001 48v questions
I am looking at 2 carts from a friends brother that wheels and deals all the time and he ended up with these from 2 different deals and called me.
both are 2001 one has new or newer batteries with a "bad controller" lift and back seat on it. The second has no batteries but has back seat but unknown condition of everything else. I am picking them both up for $1800 I didn't think that was bad? Before I take the controller out of the one with no batteries and try to swap it out with the "bad controller" what should I verify so I don't burn up a second controller? Or what can I check to make sure it isn't the controller all together? What controller should I be looking for as a replacement? I would not mind a little more power since my 1998 DS doesn't have enough power to get up my hills on my property. any help or suggestions or what not to do's before I pick this up on Friday? I wont know 100% if I get the parts cart until Friday since he had not hauled it home yet. so I may just be working with the cart with bad controller. Just trying to start wrapping my mind around what I need! Thanks |

Re: 2001 48v questions
"Bad controller" is what some people say when they have no idea what's wrong with it. Best bet is to start from the batteries and work your way through the system until you find the issue. It may be the controller, but that's an expensive guess if that's not the issue.

Re: 2001 48v questions
Seems like a fair deal. You could put $1000 more into it if it needs new batteries and a controller though. Nothing saying both controllers aren't junk. On the other hand, the controller could be good in both!

Re: 2001 48v questions
It's my understanding that to verify a "bad" controller, you verify that all the inputs to the controller are good. To verify the inputs, you need a good set of batteries so I'd start with the batteries and go from there. It wouldn't surprise me if your "bad controller" turned out to be something like a flakey throttle.

Re: 2001 48v questions
If the deal doesn't fall through I will have them tomorrow by 5pm. I have a battery tester and will start there. I asked him how he knew he had a bad controller and he told me it had no output out of the controller. I am guessing he meant output voltage. I have a fluke DMM and a battery tester. I will test the batteries and go from there. Isn't there a in-board fuse?
I know when I bought my 1998 it had a bad motor and controller from towing it in "run" mode. ok help me out here my test should be what in order 1) test batteries 2) 3) 4) I might take the batteries if there good and make sure the other cart is good. if it is I will go back to working on the other one and could swap parts at that point. But I do not want to burn up a good part by putting it in a bad cart. thanks for the help. is there a trouble shooting guide? |
