Default Crashed.

Hey everyone.

I have an awful story followed my a request for help. 1995 club car ds. 6 inch lift some nice SS tires.

Last weekend. I'm at camp, it's raining so we decide to take sod wood to the pivilon for a fire. I unload the wood. Take off down the hill, hands soaked my passenger front tire catches the side of the road and boom. Rolled. Almost all the way over. Rolled right onto the drivers side bent the roof bars, wrecked the roof and bent the steering wheel good!

I can wrench pretty good so I get some parts from the local dealer. Good price, front roof support bars $65 and roof for about $250. And replaced the steering wheel.

Thinking I am done after putting everything together I took it for a ride now I feel something strange in the steering. Like I said it bent the old steering wheel good.

The feel in the wheel is not smooth like the shaft could be bent. Hard to explain like while turning it feels -smooth-rough-smooth-rough. Like something is rubbing.

I jack up the cart and grab the wheels and turn them by hand. Still doing it. Feels really rough. So I take the new steering wheel off and adaptor and turn the front wheels. Feels smooth as can be. Put just the adaptor on the shaft and has a bit of a rough / shake through a full turn from left to right then back. Put the wheel on even worse.

When driving it you really can't feel it but when going slow or at a dead stop you can really feel the stiffness in about every full or half revolution of the wheel.

So my question is. Do I have a bad shaft? Something that's holding the shaft? The adaptor is bent? I'm out of ideas. I just don't want to do unneeded work

here.

Thanks everyone for reading this.

Jack the front up, remove the steering wheel and adapter. Have someone grab a wheel and turn it full left to full right while you watch the steering shaft from the driver's position. I'll bet you will detect a bent shaft.

I think it might be the shaft. But like I said when the steering wheel and adaptor is off I don't feel anything wrong. But I can't see the adaptor being bent. They look pretty tough.

Check the universal, joint and see if it has slipped or turned on the shaft insertion to the rack. Next take entire steering wheel off. Turn shaft with pair of vice grips. If it turns effortlessly, your problem lies in the adaptor/wheel.
I literally just finished a job for a guy that did the exact same thing. He thought the entire steering was jacked. He bent the fire out of his steering wheel too.

Ended up being the geometry was bent on the wheel and effected the adaptor. New steering wheel and adaptor solved his problem. Amongst a ton of other repairs.

Good call Htownblue. When the wheel and adaptor is off it's feels great. I was thinking the adaptor but man. Those things are solid metal. Kinda thought it'd be impossible for that to be bent, but after talking to the local dealer he said he almost never sees the entire shaft bent so I was kinda at a loss..

Thanks for the advice guys..
