Good news. Sounds like new cables are in order - and a freshen up charge on each individual battery isn't a bad idea before plugging in the pack, because if some batteries were dryer than the others, they might have drifted off-balance. After a full charge (meaning the cart charger turns off) - unplug the charger for about 5-10 minutes (without moving the cart) - then plug it back in. That will induce an equalization cycle in your charger as it attempts to re-balance the pack with a higher than normal finishing voltage. Then unplug for 12 hours and take a reading on each battery to see how close to each other they have ended-up.

a couple months after getting my cart i pulled all the batteries out to de-crud the frame
i pulled all the weeds and grass out, scrubbed the frame and batt trays with baking soda
i replaced all the cables at this time, some cable ends were almost dissolved off the cables
it made a big difference in looking under the seat

While tinkering with the batteries, one of the cables broke completely off @ the terminal. The corrosion on the terminal had eaten completely through the cable. $6 and a new cable later, each of the batteries is now reading about 8.5 volts and the entire bank is reading 50+.
The charge indicator is reading properly and I heard the "Click" of the charger when I plugged it in. I've removed it in favor of continuing to charge each battery individually, simply because I like to finish what I've started.
Long story short, I've learned a few lessons but avoided a $1,000 battery bill. This golf cart has obviously not been cared for. It's filthy, corroded and in need of a little TLC. ...beginning with replacing these battery cables.
Thanks for all the help.
I have a feeling I'll be back.
Glad to hear that you found a rotten cable as your major culprit today... Keep in mind that voltage readings taken while the cart is plugged into its charger do not count as during the charging process the charger will output voltage as high as 65 volts. After 16 hours the charger will be timed out by the OBC to which you should allow the cart to sit without use for 8 to 12 hours and then record your rested voltage. Hopefully you will see some encouraging voltage readings between 50 and 51 volts. You can also take some voltage readings while the cart is being used and under load, there your just hoping to see voltage stay above 42 volts... Keep in mind that anytime the plates have been exposed there will be battery damage, how much is a hard guess...
