Precedent high speed gears
Has anyone messed with high speed gears for their precedent in conjunction with a motor swap? Was it worth it?

Re: Precedent high speed gears
Why? How fast are you hoping to go? Hope you realize that these things were not meant to go anywhere near as fast as some hotted up carts can go. The steering gets down right squirrelly and the brakes are also not up to the job too... While my cart CAN go well into the the 30's it is rare that I drive it past 20 to 25 MPH

Re: Precedent high speed gears
My California Roadster has front disc brakes and rear drum...helps with the higher speed.

Re: Precedent high speed gears
My hydraulic front disc brakes are sitting in a box at home. Just need to weld on a couple brackets to mount the calipers to the spindles but I haven't felt like investing the time...

I want 25-28 but with enough torque to get to speed quickly. I was thinking of a high-speed gear set with a D and D high torque motor

Re: Precedent high speed gears
My opinion for flat road use you do not need high speed gears for 25/28 MPH as that is totally obtainable (and then some) with a 500 amp controller and motor... The controllers can be programmed to deliver gentle or aggressive acceleration... One thing to keep in mind is that overly aggressive acceleration in these carts is not a good thing as not only can you toss your rear seat passengers you can break components in the drive-line...

Re: Precedent high speed gears
IMO going any faster than 25 in a cart is asking for trouble. Easy to roll it and only rear wheel brakes. Not to mention no crash protection at all. Mine would easily go faster but I limited my motor RPM to keep max speed at 25. My stock max speed was 19.

Re: Precedent high speed gears
I was shooting for 20/25 as in my minds eye any faster and I should be looking for a better grade/class of transportation than a "golf cart" while I ended up with a 33+ MPH cart I see no need to go any faster than 20/25 in the hood...

It's for running around my town / dropping kids off at school etc... It will be a LSV as all my work (seat belts, signals etc) is done except actually registering it.
