Brake rebuild issues

Hi All, first post.

I'll get to the point. 91' Club Car DS bought as a project. Crap brakes. Took the Youtube tour and have gotten as far as this:

1. Removing the Drum, sanding and cleaning the crap out of the drum, pulled off old brake pads, no pad remaining on all 4.

2. Cleaned Parts with brake cleaner, and brush.

Now when I went to reverse the process following the ever so easy looking video instructions, I found that the right side pad assembly sticks out too far to replace drum. I backtracked and did the same steps over again, with the same result. It still sticks out too far.

So I took a closer look to see where an adjustment might be made. I think the Pad sticks out too far from the bottom "hinge" point, while the one on the right side looks like it is seated correctly.

What I am looking for is some advice on what to look for...

What to check, re-clean, or replace...

I'll take a few photos. I know that the brakes have seen little love for a long time, and the cart was outside for awhile. Ill grab the phone and try to snap a few photos if it might help.

It looks like the metal tab is not seated in the slots at top and bottom.

It looks like the brakes are adjusted up too high, check the brake cables. That could be why the brake shoes are not sitting into the slot.

Step one: loosen the brake cable assembly in the cavity behind and below the pedal assembly.
Step two: take drum off
Step three: remove shoe springs and shoe spring pins
Step 4: remove springs or remove one shoe pad from grooves it slides in by prying it out and back.
Step 5: remove other shoe pad.
Step 6: replace one pad by FIRST PLACING THE BOTTOM PART OF SHOE PAD IN GROOVE NEAR ADJUSTMENT AND TOP PART IN GROOVE.....THEN REPLACE SHOE SPRING AND PIN.
STEP 7: Do ther shoe pad
Step 8: place top spring on.
Step 9: place bottom spring on
Step 10: make sure both shoe pad ends are secure in grooves
Step 11: Turn adjustment to bring shoe pads in a bit to allow clearance for drum.
Step 12: place drum back on then wheels.
Step 13: adjust cable tension to desired tension

Aren't those brake shoes labelled L & T for leading and trailing brake shoe. You might have then backwards.

Brake shoes are upside down. Shoes will have a marking of "J10" or "10". All four shoes are identical on manual-adjust brakes. Back off on the adjuster until it's completely loose, remove the shoes, re-install with the markings up on all four shoes. Put the drum on and install the tire. Tighten the brake adjuster until the brake locks down. Back off on the adjuster until the tire spins free, usually 3-5 clicks. Do not leave the adjuster between clicks.
