how to make LED blinkers work?

So I was told that to make my LED signal indicators work I need some type of relay because they draw such little power that it won't blink without a relay. Went to an auto parts store and they had no idea. Went to my CC dealer and he had no idea. Does anyone run LED turn signals that blink??? I have the basic chrome light package with wire harness and have a turn signal kit on order. Going to use a separate 12v battery for accessories. Any experience with this?

I don't think a relay is used, I think they put some small resisitors across the light sockets to increase the draw so the flasher works correctly. However, I have no personal experience here so let's see what the others say.

Also, I saw a flasher relay specifically designed for use with LEDs.....and their very low draw. But like Gornoman, I have not installed them. Let's see what someone else says.

Try a solidstate flasher. I used them on motorcycles for LED turn signal lights. They are at any auto parts store with the mechanical flashers. The mechanical flashers need current to heat up the contact to make it flash, the solidstate ones don't need current

Yes, I beleive thats what they do to in the automotive industry.

You can use a blink type christmas bulb and a pot from radio shack like on this page. Will take some modifications to make it work.

Most cart turn signal kits come with a flasher. If it is a standard flasher you will need to change it out for a light duty led flasher or wire in incandescent bulb somewhere so that the flasher will have a load to use to flash. Leds do not pull enough power to activate a standard flasher thats why a light duty led flasher is required.

you don't need a heavy duty....that would be going the wrong direction. you need a solid state or wire something like a 194 bulb on the turn circut. it'll give it enough for a reg flasher to work. most people use leds if they are going to be using a lot of lights, want the look, less heat, or want the life span of an led.
