How long to let it charge
I have a 2004 DS. Put new energizer batteries from sam's three years ago. For the last six months or so the cart just don't seem to have the same get up and go like it did. I keep my cart on the charger all the time and some times I will need to unplug the charger and plug it back in because of a loss of power at the house. I guess the power company is doing work on the lines from time to time. I charged the cart last weekend and some time during the week had a loss in power again at the house. I unplugged the charger and plugged it back in. Started charging. This was last night and the charger is still charging. About 20 hours. Normally it takes about 4 to 5 hours. My question is did this charger go into some kind of deep charge mode? It's still running at 6 amps. I think someone mentioned one time the PD will do this deep charge thing?

Re: How long to let it charge
Your cart has an OBC correct? It will time out the charger after 16 hours of charging regardless. Or at least it is supposed to, but I've rarely heard of the time out feature failing to time out.
What you should be looking at is what your overall pack voltage is as well as per battery voltage. Also what are your water levels in the batteries, if it was being over charged you would smell and/or hear the overactive out gassing. Also are your terminals clean and tight? This will slow down the charge process. Your most likely problem is that the Energizer battery as sold by Sam's is a cheap battery that "generally"does not have the life span of batteries from the likes of Trojan, Crown, US Battery etc... |

Re: How long to let it charge
Thanks for the reply. Yah it has a OBC and the water is good. I clean the cables every few months. The batteries are bubbling like crazy. The cheap Sam's batteries worked good for about two years. Last year I started to notice a difference. This year I'm really noticing difference. I never really had any problems with the cart and it worked good for what I used it for. When the batteries were new they charged pretty quick. Maybe I should unplug the charger and start looking for some new batteries, not from Sam's!

I never thought I'd say this but did you do an OBC reset? Instructions are in the stickys.

And yes reset the OBC at the least... Disconnecting the main negative and waiting an hour will usually reset an OBC.... |

Re: How long to let it charge
Thanks for the info. Yah I reset the OBC after I put the batteries in when they were new. I vaguely remember how to reset the OBC. I'll check out the sticky's.

The batteries are charging at 58.8 volts right now. I'm gonna unplug it here in just a little bit. It's gone down to 5.5 amps charging. I know I plugged in the charger yesterday before it got dark lol |

Re: How long to let it charge
Yah I believe you are right. I bought the cart a little over three years ago for $1200. The one in my avatar. The guy put two new batteries in a pack with four dead batteries thinking that would be good enough for his wife to get around the golf course. I later discovered that the rectifier in the charger was bad and replaced it. I bought four more batteries from Sam's to match the other two that were two months old. I guess I did good getting three years out of these batteries.
