Default Do Brake Drums Need to be Turned

Do the brake drums on a club car that's about a 1985 need to be turned. I'm new to golf carts and got my first one about 6 months ago. Brake pedal was ok but recently stated to get low and had to press hard. I took off the drums and one side is fine but the other side had one pad worn down all the way on the bottom side and cut into the drum a little. I'm planning on replacing the pads but im not sure about the drum. Can i get away with just brake shoes, does the drum get turned. I'm trying not to replace it if i don't have to.

thanks
Nick

In an automobile I'd say yes without question... But on a cart depending on how bad as well as how used I'd say try the new shoes first and see what the result is. You will have odd shoe wear but if braking is acceptable....

Look at the drums when you disassemble the brakes. If they are not too beat up, I wouldn't bother to turn them.

Car and cart break drums are different in that car drums are made to be resurfaced within known limits and cart drums are made to be replaced when they show wear. They are not too expensive.
