Default Craigslist STEAL!

Yesterday, I bought a 2000 CC 48v DS for 250.00! Came with a brand new spar body and the charger. Now the other side of things. Last year it ran fine. At some point over the winter one of the batteries split! Never seen that before. My question is could I bypass that battery (making it 42 volts) temporarily just to see if everything will be working ok. The batteries haven't been charged since last season, I plan to top off the water in them and charge them individually for about an hour and then hook them all back together and put them on the cart charger. Any advice or other things I should do.

No... Don't bypass any batteries! Attempting to operate below rated voltage can cause damage to the electronic controller...

Split batteries means that the battery was basically dead and it froze, the remaining batteries are likely shot too...

D not top off water before charging unless the plates are exposed, only if exposed would you add just enough water to cover the plates by an 1/8" as water levels can/do rise while charging...

yeah, you could. just know that putting a fresh battery with bad batteries will hurt the life of the new battery. i know what you're wanting to do... i say go for it

Sure it might be worth a try JUST for TESTING... But I must now ask does this cart have 8 6-Volt batteries? Or 6 8-volt batteries? Didn't catch it till now that your post said removing one battery would equal 42 volts... Removing one 8-Volt battery will leave you with 40 volts...

Another thing is you don't have to remove or disconnect them to charge them... You can usually "perk" up two at a time with an automotive 12 volt charger but it will only do "just" so much. Perking one at a time with a 12 volt charger they need to be watched closely so as to not over heat them or the charger...

If they sat that long they are junk anyway. You can kill your controller if you try to run the cart with junk batteries.
