92 Club Car Batteries + Charger

Need little help. I've been doing little research in regards to charging batteries and I'm slightly confused and no one really stated a more strict direct answer.

I've got a 92 Club Car with 6 8v batteries. The cart runs and its great. I haven't used it for hours without a charge yet.

However, riding it for about 20 minutes and putting it on a charge, my charger never turns off.

For example, today I drove the cart for 20 minutes and put it on charge. I left it charge for 10 hours ... I was hoping the charger would turn off but.... it didn't. Usually I keep it charging for 4 hours after 20 minute use and that's it. This time to see if the charger maybe needed extra hours, I left it charging for 10.

That said, if I connect the charger to the outlet and its disconnected from the cart. The charger is buzzing like an alarm.

If I plug it into the cart it changes into a buzz but like a charging more of a buzzing noise.

You guys with more experience have any suggestions what to do first? I've heard some people say to leave it for 16 hours before worrying. I'm not sure what to do first.

Also, how does a charger sound when it turns off? Does it change its sound or do you simply know because if you out a volt meter on the batteries there is no change in amps, volts, etc...

Thank you in advance for anyone who can help. Sorry if this has been asked before, just no real explanation to how a charger sounds when it automatically turns off and I know mine is older then 95 that few new things were introduced, etc..

Little bit extra detail, my charger looks like this and when I plug everything, it goes to about 20 amps, then after few minutes down to 15, 10 and stays at about 3-4 for whatever time I leave it charging.

The charger should not "buzz" when the DC plug is not connected to the cart (round 3-pin connector).

Either the relay inside the charger is bad or it has been by-passed.

I said that wrong, it doesn't buzz when DC is not connected, I don't really know how to explain it but it's a different sound when it's not connected vs connected.

That said it's a two pin type plug.

Club Cars use the OBC and the round 3-pin connector for 48v.

The old Lestronic 2-pin chargers had a simple timer inside, did you check their website troubleshooting guide?

Does it have a 12 volt converter for lights or a radio? The reason I ask this is mine had one that was connected to the batteries and was "always on"

so Charging sometimes took over 16 hours, and I think it was from the draw of the reducer to be honest. I have now hooked it up to a switch so I can turn it off and charging seems to be quicker now.

Also ensure you batteries are not running low on water.

I guess here's a silly question. What's those fuse in charge off and looks burnt or broken right? Just trying to bring it all up to speed since PO never did it seems.



Checking the batteries voltage with a volt meter would I be disconnecting the batteries or just testing them one by one connected? Sorry I did a lot of work on cars and such but this is a first and don't want to ruin stuff in the process.

Correction on that 48v ..... it's actually 36v cart. My mistake, sorry.
