Club Car DS V GLIDE REPLACEMENT?
I already owe thanks to this forum for getting this far -so thanks! I have a 1989 Club Car DS electric 36V. The battery pack went bad so replaced those a few weeks ago with new cables. Cart still slow - slower than I ever remember.
I noticed that when going up a hill, if I double pump the go pedal, it picks up speed. Usually, it will maintain an increased speed. Not particularly fast, but faster. Same thing happens in reverse. With your help, I took a look at the v glide, pic attached. image.jpg. Checked the travel of the cocntactor arm - looks good to me, I have a video but won't let me upload. So, questions for those who know much more than I: do I need a new v glide? Does the worn v glide explain the "double pump"? I bought this cart in 2010 and have replaced no components (except batteries). Should I replace any other components while I'm at it. Anyway to clean the contacts up? Can I sand lightly for example, to gain some speed while waiting for parts? Thanks in advance for your help. |

Re: Club Car DS V GLIDE REPLACEMENT?
Is the first copper pad melted into the plastic at the top of it. It appears like the plastic might have got hot and the pad possibly sank into the plastic? Or is that just dirt or cob web that will wipe off?

Smokey, thanks foe the response. No, not melted. I wiped that stuff up top off. I can see it in a later photo. It looks structurally sound.

Maybe it's the lighting, but that top pad doesn't look like it has wiper marks like the rest. In fact it looks oxidized.

Make sure the wiper arm is making full contact with the top pad. Step on pedal and make sure it's fully contacting top pad. There is a lot of oxidation of the top pad, the rest of them don't look to good either. You can polish them. I'd start with emery cloth and then finish with crocus cloth. For best contact ,they need as smooth as new copper.
Check your wiper arm and remove oxidation from that as well. |

Before I saw the suggestion on the emery cloth, I took some light sandpaper and cleaned it up. This what it looks like now. Maybe some improvement? I'm confident the wiper arm is traveling to, and completely covering the top pad. Covering doesn't mean contacting. The grove patten in this pic and the oxidation would suggest that that wiper arm is separating (space between v glide and wiper arm) as it is depressed. Can the arm come losse? Any way to tighten? Is this common? Could this explain the "double pump"? As I think about it, there is no consistancy. One time, you get plenty of power up hill. Next time you crawl. Next time the double pump does nothin. When I get a chance, I'll take batteries out again and see if I can detect a "loose" arm. |

Re: Club Car DS V GLIDE REPLACEMENT?
I think I found the issue...not sure how to fix it.
In the WOT position, the wiper arm was partially on the 7th (next to last pad). When I double-pumped, it jerked the arm over (actually over the end) of the top contact. This explains why I'm getting extra juice when I jerk the go pedal. Anyone know the best way to adjust? The only nut I see is on the linkage behind the arm. Do I set to WOT and tighten? Thanks for all the responses so far! |

Between the bottom of the pedal (under the cart) and the pivot rod for the V-glide is a connecting rod with threads and jam nuts on each end. Back off the jam nuts, make your adjustment and retighten the jam nuts.

Re: Club Car DS V GLIDE REPLACEMENT?
Thanks Tag. I'm noticing now that the arm has at least a quarter inch of play. I can waggle the top from one pad to another without moving the pedal. Is that normal?

Re: Club Car DS V GLIDE REPLACEMENT?
The arm is a 2 piece affair. The lower piece could be cracked where it wraps around the upper.
