Voltage reducer amperage
I will be running a pair of cheap led fog lights and will put a 4-wheeler winch on my hunting buggy. How many amps will I need the voltage reducer to be?

Re: Voltage reducer amperage
Are the lights LED ? How many amps does the winch draw?
2 18 watt Led lights draw 3 amps. Can't tell you without knowing current draw, but I can tell you this: Did a quick search on ATV winches . A 2000 lb winch draws 80 amps, I doubt if you'll find a converter with the kind of amp rating that's affordable. Never put a winch on a cart, but I'm guessing the guys that do use a separate power source. i.e. an aux battery. |

Re: Voltage reducer amperage
The winch is not new and doesn't have any information on it. The lights are led. I wanted to stay away from an aux battery but that looks like may be the way to go

Re: Voltage reducer amperage
You can't run a winch on any reasonable voltage reducer. You need to install an aux battery for that. The lights should have wattage ratings that allow you to compute the amperage.

Re: Voltage reducer amperage
Generally the low amperage reducers do not last. 15 amp units won't last with radio and lights! 20 a units do a little better (last longer) and 30a units seem to be whats needed.
As mentioned. Do not use a reducer for the winch they can easily pull 40 - 50 amps. |

Re: Voltage reducer amperage
Looks like I'll be trying to make room for another battery. Anyone got pics of battery layout under the seat of a ds with an aux 12 v? Scotty the kit you sent was a breeze to install and everything works great! I will be recommending you to a buddy that is building a cart also.
