Default Club Car DS IQ shuts down temporarily?

Club Car IQ temporarily stops:

I have a club car DS IQ that I use in the woods to hunt and work filling feeders and that type of stuff. Occasionally, it will shut off for no apparent reason. I let it sit for a minute or two and it's fine. It happens more often at low speed when crawling thru fire breaks. Battery bank is new. It's almost like there is heat sensor or something that shuts it off.

Anybody have a clue what causes this or what I should try or check? Maybe motor brushes need cleaning? Reset OBC? Any thoughts are appreciated!

Thanks!

Slow driving, creeping through the woods causes the controller to heat up. When it gets too hot, it shuts down until it cools. It's called Thermal Cutback and it's normal.

Thank you for the reply. Just seemed weird as it doesn't always do it.

May I suggest you get something like this.

https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Tape it or somehow secure it to the controller to monitor the temp. Because sooner or later it's going to quit completely and it might be a long walk out of the Florida boonies.
This way you can monitor the temperature and stop and cool down before it cuts out.

Great idea. For reference, 80 degrees Celsius is where the Thermal Cutback begins.

Anyway to mount a fan near by to cool it?

I'm not sure that a fan would do much good. I've actually taken a small aluminum heatsink with the little fins on it and mounted it on the metal plate where the controller is mounted. The heat will then dissipate into those small fins. At that point, I think a fan would work well if you could route the air between the fins to cool them. It would be hard cooling a solid aluminum panel with a fan, but the heatsink definitely works.

Or use an Alltrax XCTcontrol with built in cooling fan and a high torque low speed motor better suited for your needs
