Default 5k-0 or 0-5k does it matter.

First of all let me say thanks for all the info. There is a wealth of knowledge here and I have learned a lot. Now I am wondering since I will be doing away with the resistor coils and v glide, when I add a pot box and controller does it matter whether they are 5-0 or 0-5 as long as they are the same. Also, in trying to determine which controller I need, I see that this controller is for a particular cart while another is for a different cart. If I am re-doing all of it anyway does it matter? Heck, why don't you guys just recommend a pot box and controller. I think I have decided to go with either the D380 or the D395 motor. (I really want the D395, but I'm afraid it might be too much if that is possible.) If it was yours to do, and you were interested in torque more than speed, what would you do?
Thanks.

It looks like you are going about this the correct way...I don't know about the motors you are asking about but I can tell you that you are right. If you are making the conversion from resistor coils or solenoids to a controller and potentiometer it doesn't matter what ohm configuration you use so long as the controller and the Pot are matched.... I prefer the simple and more common 0-5K.
I have heard it said many times that any more than a 400 amp controller is a waste on any but the MOST radical builds.. I used a 480 Logisystem. The build is still in progress so I cannot make a recommendation. I bought it for price only. But the best reputation for reliability and performance seems to belong to Alltrax. And Curtis for a Potentiometer (PB-6) ....Good Luck
What year is your cart?

It's an 89. Thanks for the input. I didn't really know if it would be worth the extra $$$ to go with something bigger than a 400 amp. It seemed like all I read was about 400's. By the way, when I rewire, does every wire need to be 4ga. or just the battery cables?

All of the cables from battery to battery , anything to the F&R switch, Solenoid, and motor. So basically you are going to remove the V-glide and the resistors. Have you done that? Then you need to mount and connect the PB-6 to the gas peddle....done that yet?

Scotty,
I've actually done nothing yet. I'm the type that has to get everything in my head before I start. Will the linkage from the gas peddle to the v glide work with the PB-6? How much better would it be to go to 2ga. wire? Is it worth the extra $$$?

Anything more than 4ga. and 400 amps is wasted on all but the most extreem modifications.... You will be happy with 4 ga. wires and a 400 amp controller

Does this mean that before I upgrade my cables to 4ga I need to change out the v-glide with a pb-6? (1998 series club car 48v)
