New owner/buyer questions
Picking up a 2011 club electric golf cart tomorrow. Has a small lift and some cool looking tires. Owner says batteries are a year old. Has some cool blue paint. Charger included.
What should I look for before handing over the cash? Never had a golf cart before. It has no top. Is a top easy to ad? Does not having a top make it less safe? How much to get the brackets and top? Loading it in my f150. Online it says the width between my wheel wells is 50.6". Owner measured outside wheel to wheel on cart and its 48". So this should work? Any loading tips? Plan on using this to cruise the neighborhood. Also taking it for the weekend to the motocross track. How long can I expect this to last on a charge? Also, if charging off a generator, how big (watts) does the generator have to be, is it a low power using item? thanks- Matt |

Re: New owner/buyer questions
confirm age of batteries for sure. Usually have date code stamped on post for certain makes I know that. The letter and number stand for the month and year. Ex: B5 would be Feb. 2015.
For a top, sometimes I see them on craigslist used or a local golf cart store might have a used one. Not super hard to find used but can be tricky. Shipping is expensive for a top thats the big cost. I'm sure some others will chime in just figured I would give it my best shot with a start since you don't have much time since you are looking at it tomorrow. |

Re: New owner/buyer questions
Ill try to decipher the date on the batteries. If they are more than a year old then I will have room to talk him down more.
Any more tips on the figuring out battery years? Was hoping it was like a car battery, easy to tell the year. |

Re: New owner/buyer questions
Also, to verify the year of the golf cart itself, I simply look a the serial number near the glove box. The first two letters are the model, next two digits the year, then next 2 digits the week it was manufactured? Is this correct?
Is all I need is a bill of sale? There is not titles are there? |

Re: New owner/buyer questions
You are correct regarding the serial no. Golf carts don't leave the factory with 17 digit VIN. In GA. bill of sale only. No title. Can't speak for other states.
Trojan batteries (the brown ones) have a date code stamped on the negative post (see pic). In this case April 2016. Difficult to alter. Other brands are more difficult to verify. Stickers are easy to fake. Some brands, Crown for example etch the case. A conscientious owner would have a receipt. Battery red flags: Miss matched brands, capacities or age. Corroded terminals and wires. Water not covering the plates. All signs of neglect. Bring a digital volt meter with you. Look for the main battery connections. Touching the meter probes there should yield a voltage of 50+. Fully charged 48v battery pack is 50.9 volts. A 48v battery pack that reads 48v is significantly discharged and needs to be explained. Golf carts are heavy, 1000lbs+. Most of the weight is on the back wheels. Got good ramps? Edit: Forgot the picture. I'll put it in another post. |

Don't forget to flip the run/tow switch to tow. Unless you got all the ramps and straps I would rent a U-haul with ramps to bring it home. A 1200 watt generator should be sufficient.

Re: New owner/buyer questions
I just bought a 2011 Club Car Precedent a couple of days ago...the serial number is on the right side, on the post at the kick panel where you get in... the first 2 digits are the year.
As for loading it into your truck, it should be no problem. I have a 3.5" lift with after market wheels and I have plenty of room between the wheel wells of the truck. Just make sure you have a good set of ramps and strap the ramps to the bumper so they don't kick out when you are going up or down. |

Re: New owner/buyer questions
Agreed on $2000. Went to get it. Looked at the vin and it was a 2002. He said he got it a couple years ago and was told it was a 11....
Batteries had C3 on the negative. So that means they were manufactured March 2013? How long can I expect them lasting? Talked him down to $1800 cause the year. Loading was simple. Used my dirtbike ramp and his dirtbike ramp. Couple hours from home for work. Headed home tomorrow. Hope it doesn't get stolen out my truck tonight at the hotel lol |
