Default 04 DS Brakes keep overtightening

I have a 2004 Club Car DS. The driver side brakes started dragging. I checked them and they were wore out and the auto adjustment screw was all the way out. I bought new pads and changed out both rear sides. The passenger side works great. On the drivers side I turned the self adjustment screw back down but the pads were to tight to put the drum back on. I double checked to make sure I had the T and L in the correct place and I did ( both up T towards the Front and L towards the back of the cart, L faces out and T faces inward.) I could not figure it out and needed the cart so i placed the passenger brakes back on the drivers side sice they were only half worn. This worked for about 9 holes then the brakes overtightened again and it started to drag. I then changed back to the new pads but slighlyfiled down the edges of the pads(chamfered) because it seems that when I put the tire on the brakes get much tighter then just testing with only the hub. This worked for a while but now they are to tight again. They drag so bad that I only get about 12-14mph out of my normally 18-20mph cart. The drum will get so hot you can barly touch it. I also tried to swap the drum from side to side to see if this helped but both were very tight. I am clueless on what to do next and so is a very experienced helper that lives close. Could the assembley be bent and need to be replaced? My next step is a 2 hour drive each way to a good cart place and start throwoing $$$ at it.

The adjuster assembly has to slide as well as adjust...make sure the assembly is clean and lubricated with a light grease like white lithium or a silicone based lubricant...also if your cart is lifted...or even if it is not...make sure the axle isn't rolling over in the u-clamps under braking...look for loose u-clamps or any sign that the axle tube might be moving...if that's the case...get the axle tube realigned and torque the nuts on the u-bolts to be sure there is zero movement. The reason this can effect just the drivers side has to do with the different length of the two cables and the effect of the axle moving.

Have you backed the brake cable adjustment all the way off?

Cleaned and lubed everything and backed off the cables. Has been working great for a couple days. No more worries because I traded it in today for a 2017.

Thanks for the advise.

Just for the archives... I have seen this problem common to some year DS carts. Replace the adjuster and the problem went away. We tried lube and the problem just kept coming back until the adjuster was replaced.

I have this issue too. You just changed the adjuster wheel?
