Default Battery Hold Down

Just thought I would share this idea! Probably not new, but it saved me some $ and was a much easier solution than the metal rods and plastic hold downs. Bought two sets of lashing straps at HD for $7 a set. Ran under framing and around battery pairs until just snug. Cut straps with enough slack to loosen for battery fills. Will see how long they last!

How well did these work? Did they last? I’m in the same boat.

For a DS, the correct hold down hooks and bars are like $30 for a full set. Three bars and six 10.25" length hooks. Add another few $ for six 5/16 lock nuts and washers.
As long as you keep them clean they last as long as the batteries will.

I used a ratchet strap like this to hold down the single battery on my gas ds. The strap rotted away and broke in under a year. It was taken in lots of water and mud in that time though. Eventually changed to normal rod hold down.

Don’t think putting pressure on the caps is a good idea. For what batteries cost I would get the factory hold downs. Just my 2 cents.

I could see me buying those straps and never checking the water again until it was too late. I would like to go on record that I'm totally opposed to that idea.
