Default Questions regarding '99 DS...

Hi Guys...

Just picked up a '99 DS and I have some questions. It is 48v and I believe it is a series cart as it has the f/n/r lever instead of the rocker switch. It does not have a tow switch and the s/n begins with "A9936-".

On occasion, I get a "clunk" when I turn the wheels "lock to lock". I raised the wheels and they turn effortlessly by hand with no "clunk" or interference. There does not seem to be an excessive amount of backlash when I turn the wheels by hand (and the steering is under no load). I greased the grease fittings, however, do not see a fitting on the steering rack. Is there an adjustment in the steering mechanism that I might be missing...???

The batteries are toast, registering 48.2v after a full charge and 12 hour rest. Although the cart will move, it shudders going up the slightest hill. I assume that is a result of the poor battery condition...???

I haven't been able to drive this cart for any distance but seemed to notice a slight "chatter" when taking my foot off of the accelerator pedal. I am wondering if I might have a bad guide ring. If so, what are the symptoms and how difficult are they to change...???

Thanks for your thoughts and suggestions...
