Club Car Motor L Bracket
What's your opinion on not using the L bracket on high speed or high torque motors on club car series?
The bracket does not come with any upgrade motors and this upsets some customers. |

Re: Club Car Motor L Bracket
Personally I have never run one, I always leave them off. If I had a beast motor I probly would but for your common 48 volt upgrade or mild manored motor I personaly wouldn't use them. If you really think about the L-bracket and how it's made it looks like it was a quick fix....definately doesn't look like something an engineer came up with...probly a bean counter.
I guess if your customers are complaining then it wouldn't hurt to have the manufacturer put them in the box......but then again they don't supply the bolts either so....... |

Re: Club Car Motor L Bracket
I gotta agree with Roady, the bracket looks like a friggin afterthought.. But I did get one for my Ike rebuild.. Running a D395 with 8:1 gears, I wanted to make sure the motor had a firm grip on the axle housing..
The bracket is available thru Club Car dealers for less than $3.00.. Order part# 102187001.. Two 1/4"-20 x 3/4" bolts secure it to the motor case.. |

Some of the motors have a little ear and some have a bracket. For $3 bucks you could save alot of phone calls.

Re: Club Car Motor L Bracket
When I did the torque upgrade on my '01 CC the new motor did not come with the bracket. The original motor had one cast in the motor frame. If you consider that with out the "L" bracket 50% of your new motor is not supported the added stress on the rear end housing could be a problem waiting to happen. I made a bracket out of 1" bar stock. I also replaced the motor mounting bolts with Grade 8 hardware. This is a small price to pay to be sure. I'm not an engineer but if it were not needed CC would have not cast it into the OEM motor. That extra bolt and small amount of cast x the number of units made each year would save them a few pennies per car. That is all it takes. Err on the side of caution and add the bracket.....

Re: Club Car Motor L Bracket
Everyone has valid points but I would like to point out that to the best of my knowledge I have never seen nor heard about any kind of failure due to a non-existant L-bracket. No saying it cant happen, I'm sure it will with the right motor/controller combo. The MFG's could have the L-bracket made at a fab shop for pennies.....pennies the consumer will eventually pay for. Even $3 is acceptable to me.

Re: Club Car Motor L Bracket
I'll post a pic when I go to the garage , but I put an outboard motor support from the motor housing down and welded the bracket to the axle tube. ALOT of unsupported weight with leverage and only (3) small bolts to hold it. Just scared me, Also putting truss under axle tubes, Just in case there is an "accidental launch" or two in the future !
