Default 1996 Club Car DS engine shakes doesn't move

My 48V club car has new solenoid, 1 year old batteries which hold 51V charge.
When I press the pedal, the motor seem to be running but shakes and the cart doesn't move. Same result in reverse. I put the cart on stand so the back wheel is off the ground. Same problem, shaking in the motor but wheels not turning. Could the motor or rear drive shaft be bad?

The rear shaft is Kawasaki MC008K5J3404 and the motor is Part no:101785701
model: 5BC59JBS6194B Date Code: WKN N Voltage: 48 HP:3.10

How can I tell which one or both need replacement? or is there other areas I need to check first.
Thanks for any assistance.

When you had the rear wheels off the ground did you try to turn the wheels by hand to see if they were free? This could tell you if the problem is in the rear end or the motor is the issue. When you say the motor is running...what are you hearing? Sometimes a frozen motor will humm but still not spin. Moving the wheel by hand can also tell you if the motor is actually able to spin or not. You may have to pull the motor...not too difficult...but be sure to follow procedure.

You didn't say whether your cart was Series or Sepex (see HERE). On a series cart the expressions shaking/shuddering are often used when describing low voltage. I know you said your pack was 51v and one year old...BUT...if one of your big cables is loose or badly corroded, it may not allow the voltage to travel to your motor. Check, clean & tighten all big cables. Also, I assume you have proper golf cart batteries and not marine batteries or something unsuitable that would fail quickly and cause that.

Put a voltmeter on each of your batteries and "step-on-the-gas". Is each holding voltage (around 8v) when you do that, or does the voltage take a dive? Sometimes a single battery will fail (for no real reason) and you can discover it by checking each battery under load conditions, separately.

I'm not suggesting its not in your drive line - but they are pretty simple and bullet proof, and rarely give problems.

Thanks for the reply so far. It's a Series. So, I jacked the cart up and removed the rear tires and the wheel hubs to make sure the brakes were not rubbing. Now, I can turn the axle shaft easily by hand. And when it's on and I pressed the pedals, no more shaking and wheels are turning but very slow.

The voltage between the 48V batteries are down to 48.1. I'll charge it up overnite to bring it back up to 50V+ and do the voltage check of each batteries while pressing the pedal to see if any goes down rapidly.

I'll also check the voltage going to the motor while I press the pedal. Thank you so much for your feedback. I'll give an update tomorrow what I find.

my 2001 club car serpex motor did this and I had a bad winding in the motor causing the motor to hop and turn very slow when on jack stands. You might have to pull your motor and take it to a motor shop they can test it and in a few minutes let you know. They pulled my Armature out and did a Growler test and found mine with a short in one winding.
Where are you located? I am in Michigan and the guy by me did all the tests for free. if your close by I have 2 spare 48v series motor you can try.
